All application materials due by February 1st
PhD Applicants are required to apply online. Application to the department is made by filling out the PHD ONLINE APPLICATION FORM. Online applications allow individuals see the current status of their application. Also, it allows the department to process your application quickly and efficiently. In addition to the online application the following material must be mailed to the department by the application due date:
- Unofficial transcripts from all previous undergraduate and/or graduate course work. However, we require official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work before your application can be reviewed by the Admissions Committee.
- An official score of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is required. Use the following codes for submitting your official GRE scores to the CDS department: University Code: 2925 and Department Code: 0620.
- Two academic/professional letters of recommendation attesting to the student’s personal qualifications and potential for satisfactory completion of graduate work in the field.

International Students
The following information must be submitted directly to our department for admission processing:

- * Official Toefl test scores
- * Passport bio page

Upon being admitted into our program, you must also submit:

Use the following information to submit letters of recommendation:
- Letters of recommendation should appear on letterhead showing complete mailing address and phone numbers.
- Letters must be signed and names must be spelled out (as writing is not always legible).
- They can be professional, business, community based or personal (such as volunteer/church, etc.)
- Mail letters to: Admissions Committee, Communicative Disorders and Sciences Dept., University at Buffalo, 3435 Main Street, 122 Cary Hall, Buffalo, NY 14214-3023.
Ask the faculty who know you best and who can comment positively on the quality of your work. Letters from senior faculty in your prospective discipline carry more weight than those from faculty outside of your field. It is also helpful to meet with the faculty who are writing letters for you, so that they can get a clear understanding of your interests and your qualifications. You might provide them with a resume or outline of the courses you've taken; any research experience; or related activities, projects, or term papers you completed in their class.

Early filing will facilitate the admission process. NOTE: There is no guarantee that late applications will be considered. Please do not hold onto materials, waiting until all items are available before sending in US mail. To expedite the processing of your application, we ask that you send in your materials as you receive them. This will help expedite the flow of paperwork at a time when the University is inundated with applications. Also, note that it is important that you submit your application materials early to be considered for funding.
