The University Clinic offers services for children and adults diagnosed with an auditory processing disorder(APD). Typically those with an APD have normal hearing, but have trouble efficiently and effectively processing or interpreting auditory information. Those with auditory processing difficulties may have trouble with accurately perceiving sounds or words, with immediate recall of information, with tolerating background noise, or with organizing information. Some individuals with auditory processing difficulties also present with challenges with language skills such as participating in discussions, problem solving, inferencing, following directions, or sequencing informations. Others may have difficulties with forming sentences or language or finding the appropriate word to use when necessary. In addition, reading, writing, and spelling difficulties often accompany an auditory processing disorder. The University Clinic offers specialized programs for children and adults addressing the above mentioned areas.
